Survival of the Fittest!

Well, guys and gals I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update this thing, but I had the hardest time finding a time or place to use the internet...so it's Monday afternoon and this is my first official visit to my blog since I arrived here on Thursday. :) Let's see...where to begin...

I flew in about lunch time on Thurs. and met 2 of my 5 roommates right away. My roomie Shauna (dancer) and I arrived first so we got dibs on the "master" bedroom with it's own bath (YAY). There are 6 girls living in a 3 bedroom 2 bath apt. with 6 guys doing the same thing a floor below us. 2 female and 2 male vocalists as well as 4 female and 4 male dancers. Heather is my singin' buddy and I love her already! She's beautiful with a great sense of humor and a hardcore voice that will blow you away. We immediately started working on our country show, "Pure Country" and it's going to probably be my favorite! I already know 80% of the songs so it's just a matter of catching on to the subtle changes that they've made for they're version of the song. We are beginning with night rehearsals, so I don't have anything to do until about 3:30 in the afternoon. (It's AWESOME!!!) I'm singing everything from Faith Hill's "Breathe" to Patsy Cline's "Crazy" so this show is right up my alley. My only concern is that they basically have me in a soprano roll. Now if you are a musician then you probably know my voice well and you're laughing right now...if not then let me just say that all of the songs are a good bit higher than anything I'm used to belting out so this will definitely be a new challenge for me to overcome vocally...
The studio is only about 2 mi. down the road and there is a grocery store and shopping center about a mi. away, so thus far we've been walking everywhere that we need to go. It's great exercise, but I can't say that I don't desperately miss having my car. ;)

I went to Sheridan Hills Baptist Church Sunday and I really enjoyed it. I just looked up churches in the phonebook and tried to pick the closest one that was either baptist, methodist, or something I thought I could enjoy. The cab fair was a little expensive, but I think Heather's going to go with me next week so I will at least have a friend and can split the fair.

Other than that things are going great. I love the people and they're all VERY good at what they do. The shows are going to be amazing so if you haven't booked your cruise you'd better start making plans!!! :)

Keep in touch!

Love,
Me~

Hey Squirt,(I just had to even though you are almost as tall as I am now - I've called you that since before you were walking)

I am glad you are starting to get some pictures on your blog. It's interesting getting to see the people you talk about. So is Eric your singing partner? Maybe shortly you will find a good internet connection without having to wonder around the complex looking for a signal. I love you very much and look forward to hearing about everything you do.

Love,
Dad

Whoa! You are singing with the beautiful people now! No more sloppy Masonites dragging around instruments and tapping on walls with sticks! Welcome to life in the fast lane! No more sloughing off and sitting bleary-eyed through theory or music history. Now, its up-tempo, fast-paced learning of a show, putting down one performance after another when you get on the boat. Exploring your surroundings when you are not rehearsing, living without a car, living with people from different parts of the country who have been reared differently from you, living in a different part of the country ~ of course, its Florida, who could not be happy with that? Thank your lucky stars you're not in Minnesota, although, I would find that fun, too. You are single, meeting new people, growing vocally, stretching as a professional performer~ as far as I'm concerned, you are having the time of your life! I hope that you realize that. These times will be fabulous to look back on. (Can you tell I miss that time in my life when I did this sort of thing?) Ah well, its all good and I am THRILLED for you. It is so much fun to live your experiences with you via this blog. Thank you for updating it. I am enjoying it so much. It makes me feel 20 again. I can SO RELATE to what you are doing! ~All the way down to walking around town and finding a church (among other things, I am sure) What an adventure!

Your roommates are so cute! What fun to live with 6 girls in your first apartment as a professional singer! Do you know how your living arrangements will be on the boat?

I do hope that you keep a journal. If nothing else, save all these blogs and print them later for your "memoirs"! Your kids will have a blast reading about Mom on the cruise ship one day!!! TJ is amazed that I was ever anything but a Mom whose main job was to clean house. (seriously, he actually wrote that in a grade school report...)

The pictures are GREAT!!!! I CAN'T WAIT to see pictures from all over the world. You will take me on a journey every time I see them!!! You know that I love to travel. Performing in all those places just brings back fabulous memories for me! Please post as many as you can!!!
